If you aren’t going far from home, leave it there. These things are pretty delicate and you don’t want to damage it.

I got a spare engine a few years ago. I figured that I could pull my pump off and send it out for service, leaving the pump from the spare engine as a backup. Big mistake. The pump shop (Boston Fuel Injection) ruined the pump. The engine wouldn’t run right after the pump was rebuilt. I had to raise the idle to keep it running.
