I’d like a little more information about what you did to prepare the cabin top for the new headliner you installed.

I am replacing the teak hand rails with locally fabricated stainless hand rails and installing the units I bought from Railmakers. Many (more than a third) of the old hand rail through-bolts leaked and nearly all of the original door skin backed panels were rotten in some area. I have removed all of the headliners and I will use them as templates. The old headliner will be replaced by 4 X 8 sheets of Kydex which I will cut to fit. The Kydex I purchased is an off white with a lightly textured surface. I also plan to insulate the cabin top with closed cell foam.

Did you remove all of the old plywood mounts, or just some of them? If so, which ones did you leave in place? What kind of insulation did you use and how thick was it? Your pictures make the trim between the panels appear a little wider than the original trim on my boat. Is this true or an function of the photography? Do you have any words of wisdom you’d like to share about this type of project?
