Water injection elbows come in two common styles. There is the common injection elbow and what is called a riser. I would suggest that you retrofit with a riser. Even though this barely gets the exhaust higher than the water line, Pearson positioned the water-lift on the starboard side of the engine, the opposite side from the exhaust outlet. This means that when the boat is heeled over on starboard, the water lift is on the high side of the boat. As long as you don’t broach over on starboard, water shouldn’t make its way back into the engine.
When I repowered, there was insufficient room to route the exhaust over to the port side, but my new engine comes with a higher riser.
don’t forget the vented loop just before your raw water pump.
