Forums General Discussion Fuel Gauge sight glass Re: Fuel Gauge sight glass

Rodd,

I changed the old plastic sight glass in my fuel gauge viewing portlight. It was held in place by an aluminum retainer ring that was designed to screw out of the body of the portlight, which is threaded for the purpose on the inside. However, it was not designed to do this after 30 years in a marine environment, and nothing I tried worked to free it up. Finally, I cut the ring in two places with a Dremel tool and broke it out. I then put in the new lens with a fat bead of 4200 adhesive bedding compound. If I ever have to change the lens again, I figure I’ll just cut the bedding with a blade.

Good luck,

Tor
