Re starting my W58. I have a “heavy duty” truck starting battery in my box–it was the smallest that would fit in what appears to be the original box. Starting motors should not be run for more than 15 seconds without a pause between starting efforts to allow it to cool. I always heat up the glow plugs before starting–I’ve been in Maine and the Martitme provinces for the last several years. Several seasons ago the glow plug circuit quit while we were in Georgian Bay. To assure a morning start, I would get up at 0100 or so to run the engine to keep it warm and covering it to keep it worm until moving time. Even at that it took an effort to start the vewry cold engine. When we finally gat back to port just north of Chicago, the starter was burned out from the extended running.

What a great idea.
Some of my space down there is taken up with an
autopilot. But, I might have room for at least the
starting battery. Since I am installing an automatic
charge relay anyhow, the wiring will be a cinch.
It will cleanup some of the stb locker.

re-locating. I put mine under
the steering quadrant. This is space that is not
very useable for anything
that might shift, but ther is just barely enough
room for a flat platform,
T105, and a piece of plywood over the top to prevent
interfering/shorting on
the quadrant. I think I will be able to fit 6 T105s
back there.
I cut the Pearson box out two weekends ago with a
sawzall, so I am committed
now.
There are some pics on the 424 website.
