      Howdy all,

As part of my overall deck rehab, I need to replace a portion of one of my eyebrow trim pieces (damaged).  I know many folks have removed these trim pieces altogether and filled the holes.  But I like them and have had no leakage issues.  So my question is in regards to the fastening hardware.  I’m assuming these pieces are sheetmetal screwed to the fiberglass and bonded with 4000 or similar.  Is this right?  I’m hoping they are not through screwed with machine screws, but hard to imagine why they would be.  Just looking for some confirmation here.

My deck rehab consists of repairing all stanchion base areas (done), grinding/filling all (or a lot of) the gel coat cracks (about 80% done), and re-coring the cabin top where if flexes and crackles (haven’t started yet, but have the divinycell on hand).  So far going relatively smoothly.

      David,

The eyebrows are fastened with wood screws and bedded with silicone caulk.  Silicone is the wrong type to use on teak but that’s what Pearson used on my boat.  I’ve had to remove screws that were leaking and rebed with polysufilde.  Just putting a bit on the threads and reinserting the screw seems to work.

      Thanks Rich.  Sounds pretty straightforward.
