ParticipantGreetings again,
My main winches are original, I believe (Lewmars I think) which are in good mechanical shape. I cleaned/rebuilt, installed new springs, etc, and they operate well. The problem is, they are beginning to flake the chrome plating, in dangerous sized pieces that can cut. I’m wondering if anyone has had theirs re-plated and was it cost effective?

ParticipantHi DavidI took my Lewmars apart about 5 years ago and had them re plated about 5
yrs ago here locally in N.C. Like yours all the chrome had virtually flaked off.
The guy charged me $75.00 for the pair and they have held up really well with an
occasional waxing.Best Regards / Jack / âMOJOâ in Oriental,NCCalico Jack

ParticipantThanks Jack. Now to find a plater in my area. Could be a trick, though Iâm betting Pensacola has someone. Since it was successful in your case, I assume itâs possible to plate just the outside so that the gear teeth on the inside are not affected. I had some plating done on a bumper some years ago, but am not very familiar with the process.
