      Hi, All,
      I recently received a message regarding two P424s for sale in the Puget Sound area. They are called MISCHIEF MAKER and FREE SPIRIT. Does anyone know about these boats?

      Thanks,
      Mary E. Springhorn

      There is also another 424 “Rhythm” for sale in the area. Don’t know much about them, but I’ve been watching, since I live in the area and CRAVE a new 424 (sold mine before moving here).
      I’ve also seen 2 others sell in the past year.

      AND of special note – check out the “stainless steel cap rail” on “Rhythm”, in place of the teak. Kinda freaky, but interesting… and a lot less work.

      Turns out Mischief Maker used to be called SPRAY and has hull number 173. Anyone familiar with the history of that boat?

      Doing a little math… if only 255 P424s were made from 1978-1983/5 could hull number 173 really be a 1983?

      Last One (Hull 174) and Bel Esprit (Hull l175), what year were your P424s built?

      Thanks,

      Where did you get the number 255 ? I think it was closer to 220. Our boat, hull number #178 was built in 1982. hull 170 is listed as 1981 and hull 172 was listed as 1982. I have Spray listed as 1981.

      You can tell alot about it from the official hull number on the stbd stern. ( from Dan Pfieffer’s Pearson Pages http://pearsoninfo.net )

      PEA = Pearson
      58 = model indicating it’s a 424
      XXX = the “hull number”
      MYY = Yr built or Model Year
      X = build Month

      Model Year
      This is the model year of the boat. It is not necessarily the production year. The model year runs from August of the previous year to July of the year given. I don’t know what the M is for.

      Build Month
      This is the month of the model year the boat was built. It starts with A for August and runs to L for July alphabetically.

      A August
      B September
      C October
      D November
      E December
      F January
      G February
      H March
      I April
      J May
      K June
      L July

      I think what I saw was not the official plaque then. It was a plaque with full name of Pearson a logo and a small area to engrave and only the number 173 was engraved. This plaque was not mounted on the hull it was in the nav station.

      I’m sure its not intentional, I just assume the broker who handled both the previsou sail and this for the current previous owners (who only owned her a year) didn’t know any better. I saw the survey from that purchase and it listed the HIN as unknown.

      I got the # of P424s built at 255 from the boat bio on YachtWorld, I would trust your own numbers over the brokers. 🙂
