ParticipantI e-mailed Michigan Prop for information on the prop size best needed for my 424 (hull # 124.) Their answer was 18D LH 13P. I have the standard Pearson 20D LH 13P on her now and she pulls to stbd in fwd (as when she backs but I like that.) I see some of your boats don’t pull in forward and I’m interested if you have the standard prop. Please reply stating:
1. Prop size
2. Pull to stbd?
3. Shaft offset
4. Full hull speed RPM
5. Hull#1. 20D LH 13P (standard Pearson prop)
2. YES / Pulls hard to stbd above 1800
3. No shaft offset noted.
4. Hull Speed 2200 7.8 Knots
5. 124Thanks

OK – this from the stupid questions department –
Where is the air intake on a W-60? I looked all about the engine and could not find an air filter – or what looked like an air intake.Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.

ModeratorOn the W58 there's a big pipey looking thing on the starboard side. If the W60 is anything like that it's what you have.
There is no air cleaner on the W58. Just a big hole to suck air into.
Hope that helps.

Looks like you have your Maxi prop adjusted to about 12-13 Pich. Do you know if Xanadu IV pulled with the old prop?
Thanks

ParticipantDon,
I have no idea if the original prop had walk with it or not. My prop is adjusted to 11 degrees pitch. When I first purchased Xanadu IV, I had the shaft pulled and spun to check to see if it was true. The yard had no problem pulling the shaft, and did it with the prop on the shaft.Jack

ParticipantEric, there's a rubber hose that runs from the top of the valve cover to an aluminum tube. That tube extends down to the air cleaner. There is no element in the U shaped breather. If you were to remove the exhaust manifold it will come of with it. It could be removed independently but as there's nothing to service there would be no reason. You should be able to feel the mesh screen that covers the opening if start with your hand aft of the lift pump and reach up under the heat exchanger. Ensuring it isn't fouled with dog hair is about the best you can do.
I looked closely at mine while it was off and thought that maybe at one point is was set up to be an oil bath type breather but wasn't really sure. The W60 manual makes no reference to any oil in the assembly.
Keeping the engine compartment free of dust and debris should help reduce wear on engine components. Dirt, whether in the fuel on in the air is the enemy of the diesel engine.Chuck
