My original Pearson owner’s manual says the 424’s total water capacity is 150 gallons. Does anyone know
the individual water tank capacities, i.e., port, starboard and forward? Has anybody actually measured?Tor

ModeratorHi Tor,
I think it's 50/50/50. But since I don't have a way to measure water in, I had to take the PO's word for it. I may have it in my original (yes, original) owners manual. I'll look if you like.

RichCarterParticipantI think it is 170gal. If I ever replace the side tanks, I may try for slightly larger tanks.

john stevensonParticipantThe brochure that was in the documentation with my 424 says 170 gal. I guess that means 60/60/50. I've never attempted to verify the capacity.

Bob,
I have the original-yes-original manual that came with this boat, too, and all it says is 150 gallons total capacity in 3 tanks. I may decide to convert the forward tank to storage at some point – it has never been used for water or anything else in 30 years! – and was wondering what I’d have left in the salon for water capacity. Maybe I’ll measure one of these days by pouring in 5-gallon jugs of water until one tank is full. I’m pretty sure the port & starboard tanks in my boat are equal volume.

Thanks, John. I have a copy of that brochure, too. I got the 150-gallon figure from the original Pearson “Owner’s Guide and Protection Plan,” a 3/4″-thick, blue-covered, spiral-bound book that was apparently given to the original purchaser of my boat in 1978. It contains a wealth of information about the boat and related matters, but is not specific about the individual water tank capacities.
It’s possible later model 424’s have 20 gallons more water capacity than my #17. It’s also possible, I suppose, that Pearson didn’t know exactly how much water fit in the tanks, and used different approximate numbers at different times.

john stevensonParticipantTor,
I think you nailed it. I have the same owner's manual with the 150 gal spec. I suspect the brochure is based on the design drawings and the owner's manual is based on the boats that came out of the shop. Maybe that's why there's a locker space aft of the main cabin tanks – the installed tanks were smaller than that in the specs.
That brochure was the original for my hull #2.John

You have a locker space aft of the main cabin tanks? Where exactly is it? I have 6″ of “dead space” at the after end of my salon water tanks, between the end of the tank and the end of the settee. Is that what you’re referring to?
