ParticipantI hate to do this, but since there are so many opinions on this, I think the only reasonable approach to designing a counterpoise system for my SSB is to find out what Pearson 424 owners have, and if it works well.
So, If you don’t mind, what counterpoise system do you have, and do you feel that you have good transmission? (how much foil, screen, any through hulls{grounded or not} engine block {y/n}, fuel tank {y/n})
Of course, you can reply with theory if you really want, but I am only interested in the practical experience on 424s. I hope that does not sound harsh, I just want to save you the trouble.
Thanks in advance! P.S. I saw the recent thread related to this, but want to focus on the emprical observations.

I’d also be interested in this, and please specify if the installation is a ketch or sloop. (does ANYONE here have ssb on a sloop?)

I put a medium sized dynaplate under the hull directly under the stern and connected to the automatic antenna tuner plus I ran 34 ft. of copper 4 inch foil thru the hull from the tuner forward and also connected the engine to that foil. I get very good ssb results all thru the Caribbean. Jim #219 cutter

ParticipantThanks Jim.
Is the tuner and Dynaplate circuit directly connected to the Tuner and Foil circuit?
