OK, SO I fired up the new refrigeration system over
the weekend. Got the freezer down to 20 degrees and
the refrigerator side down to 47. I think I may need a
muffin fan to help mover the air around. OVerall I am
pleased with it. I have yet to see it draw more than 4
amps. I dont know what the duty cycle is as I was
busy putting in the new ports.
I installed 6 new NFM ports this weekend. Took me all
day Saturday, Sunday and 1/2 of Monday. Biggest
headache was cleaning up all the crap that was holding
the old ones in. Hard to believe they leaked with all
that caulking there. Makes the the boat look like a
      million dollars.
Tomorrow I go to get the tendon in my right arm
stretched back down where it’s supposed to be
      attached.
Least I’ll be able to have a cold one and be dry when
      it rains.
As soon as I figure out how to operate a mouse with my
left hand I’ll be back online.
      Alan

Hey Alan, any pics of your new portals? We’re going to be doing all 10 of them (yikes!)

For those of you who have not yet discovered, a leak under the coach-roof trim piece can look much like a leak in a portlight. Before tearing your portlights out to rebed or replace them, consider rebedding the fasteners used in the teak trim above the portlights.

On a related note, if anyone comes across a replacement light for the large non-opening ports used on some of the boats, please let me know. My boat came with two non-opening portlights in the head. I purchased a pair of Bomar replacements only to find that they are about an inch too narrow.

      Yep, that leaks too. 🙂

I’m going to remove the teak eyebrow trim completely and seal up all those little holes. Like Hi Flite did: http://www.hiflite.org/eyebrow.htm

As for the portholes, I have six plastic portholes which are caulked closed to prevent them from leaking and between when those did leak and the leaky eyebrow my veneer along the cabin top is shot, delaminating and rotting. Since I have to re-do 6 and have to pull out all 10 to re-do the veneer I might as well do all 10. We’ll do it in stages though for sure.

If anyone has any replaces the cabin top veneer (along the portholes on the inside) do pass along pics. We’re actively thinking about our options for that. We’re hoping to brighten up the space a bit but not quite go all the way to bright white Formica. Suggestions are always welcome!

      Thanks,

      Patrick,
The tape looks better than I would have suspected. No teak to finish. I’m
in the process of rebedding some of the fasteners in there and I’m
considering it as a future project. My fist thought had been to replace it
with teak trim that has no fasteners to hold it. It would be glued in
place. I’ve been rebedding the fasteners as leaks develop, but it is hard to
catch it in time. My coachroof interior is still in decent shape. I’ve
been refinishing that too. The V-berth laminate is the worst, but there’s a
bad spot in the aft cabin too.
