The James Roberts procedure only works if your tank does not have an ovanflow outlet. Our forward (integral) tank does and Janet filled our bilge the first time she filled the forward
tank. Our stern tank–an newer plastic box– does not have an overflow valve and so it can be filled using the Roberts procedure.Norris Larson on Easy Reach, #206.
