Participanttor: not to belabor-and i appreciate your research here- but if the
transmission is placed in gear while under sail, and the prop shaft is
turning nonetheless (as mine does after 4 kn or so) would that engage
the plates and circulate the life-giving lubricative oil? I was under
the impression it is mechanically pumped when the drive shaft turns.-Adam Silverstein-iPhone

Participantor is it wear on the shaft bearings that we wish to avoid-as long as
the tranny remains in neutral, it is disengaged from the lower prop
shaft and there should be little wear on the Paragon itself.-Adam Silverstein-iPhone

ParticipantSorry, Adam, but you’re asking the wrong guy. I can just about change the oil in my car. If you want the absolute truth from a guy who really knows, call Cass at 904-731-0060. He’s a nice old guy with a lifetime of hand-on knowledge about Paragon and most other marine transmissions. He’s been through all of their training schools over the decades and has rebuilt more units than anyone I know of. You can take whatever he says as gospel.
