ParticipantThe buckheads in the forward head need painting. What material are they and what would be the proper way to paint them.
It is truly amazing what some people will do to a perfectly good wall.
thanks

ModeratorHi Howard,
Unless they've been painted, they are formica. Tor (Silverheels) has had experience with vinyl paint – he used it on the verticals inboard of the water tanks. In either case, there are vinyl paints that will stick.

ParticipantThe Formica walls have also been successfully painted with Interlux
Brightside that has been flattened to take out some of the gloss. I have
seen it on Walter’s boat (Hull #1) and it looks pretty good. He also used
vinyl paint on the original striped wall coverings in the head, as have
others. It also looks very good.Paul

Howard,
It looks to be Formica or equivalent. We wallpapered ours using a vinyl to vinyl adhesive or it would not stick. We like the colorful, cheerful wallpaper. If you choose to paint then make sure you sand paper the formica to a nice brushed rough suface, take off all gloss, then use an epoxy paint.Joe,

RichCarterParticipantThe bulkhead behind the toilet in my head is wallpapered with a vinyl fabric. To my knowledge, Pearson did the same thing with all the boats. If yours looks white, someone may have painted over the wallpaper.

I removed and replace the formica in my head. I used white on the
horizontal surfaces and a pattern selected by the Admiral for the
verticals. It looks great and I would recommend it highly over paint.Pete
