I spoke with the owner at New Found Metals (NFM) today and tonight I’m staying on the boat so I was able to do some more measurements and here’s the plan.

The 5×12 NFM portholes should drop right in or need minimally larger fitting for all the Beckson plastic portholes I have today. This covers the v-berth (2) and the salon (4).

The other portholes in the Galley, head, shower and aft berth are all 4×17.5 (glass size) and the 3×17 might work (they only need 1/4″ of hull since they clamp together) but I’d rather have a little more meat behind my portholes.

There are two options from NFM available that are slightly larger. One is a 6×20 (overall size 9-3/8 x23-1/4 and the other is a 8×18 (overall size 11-3/8 x 21-1/4). The 6×20 will fit in the Galley, Aft-Bert and the Head. In the shower the bulkhead to bulkhead distance won’t accommodate the added width, but there’s room for the added height so I’ll go with the 8×18 in the shower.

      Summary:
      6 – 5×12 – V-Berth and Salon
      3 – 6×20 – Head, Galley, Aft-Berth
      1 – 8×18 – Shower

Overall I think the added size in those areas will be a big plus, and in terms of the quality it will be a huge step up!

      Pat,

I replaced two of the original long portlights with Bomar brushed aluminum opening portholes a while back. They were pricey – I paid $332 apiece a year and a half ago – and Bomar was unbelievably slow about filling the order. Still, the portholes are well-made and fit easily into the shower and aft cabin slots with just a little bit of trimming back around the edges of the openings. I believe Bomar’s part number for them was N3519. I ordered them through Port Supply (West Marine).

More recently I bought four smaller opening portholes second-hand to replace the forward portlights. They look like they’ll fit perfectly and are well made, but there are no identifying marks to indicate who made them.
