Instead of a special garboard drain plug, I mounted my speedo transducer on the side of the deep bilge, about 1 foot up from the bottom of the bilge. When on the hard, I just remove the speedo impellor and place a bit of plastic screening over the open hole to keep out any critters. Now, if water should mount in the bilge for any reason, it has a way out. This has worked for me for over 10 years with no problems!
