ParticipantHow do you get bottom paint to stick to the bronze prop shaft strut? Primer? Epoxy coating?

You could use any number of primers suited to bronze, but I suggest that you just put the copper paint over the bronze. The paint won’t stick all that well but you can repaint each season. The strut is part of the grounding system on the boat and would make better contact with the water if you don’t cover it with an insulating paint. Rf grounds don’t really need to be in direct contact with water, but for lightning protection you want some contact. Tin or copper based paints should provide enough conductivity.Regards
Rich

SpectatorThis is kind of an old thread; I’m looking for something and saw it.
What we did clean the bottom paint off of the strut and the grudgeon for the rudder and put on Barnacle Ban which is a zinc based paint. This is what we did to the shaft and prop last haul out and they stayed prety clean.
Just FYI….
