I’m not a lawyer, but in the last two years I have had THREE simple business deals go south.

In each case the other side boldly, demonstrably lied in depositions and to a judge and I spend thousands having my $500/hour lawyers explain to their $700/hr lawyers what should be a simple thing: That they lied.

I won every case, but it is really enlightening to see how the other side can take a black and white fact and twist it into grey. You then spend 5-10k arguing about it, and then they say well, ok, but up is down.

At least in my case it ended up being way more expensive for the other side…

But Insurance companies, well, they have staff counsel they get sued so much 🙂

Insurance companies refusing to honor the word of one of their sales people?

And, I’m not saying nuthin, I’m just sayin’ 🙂

Alan, You may navigate within the “Tropical Storm Zone” at any time you like and would have full coverage from the policy (even during the storm season). HOWEVER, if you are within the Tropical Strom Zone from July 1st to November 1st, you would not be covered for any damage resulting from a tropical storm as defined in the Jackline policy. If you are outside the Storm Zone and sustain damage from a tropical storm, you are covered but subject to a 4% ($3,200) deductible. If this storm zone presents a problem for you, I can secure a quote from my London market. They can provide coverage for named storms in the hurricane zones if needed. However their policy is nowhere near as comprehensive as Jackline. And their claim service is slow.

I’m not a lawyer either, but in a prior life I had to work with a lot of them. This is probably an unhealthy string for a site dedicated to the joys of ownig a P-424, however, I can’t resist.
Lawyers are not about truth and justice. They are about winning, and punishing the other guy. That is why lies are worth a combined $1300 per hour.
Thank you, Aaron. Once again my decision to retire early is affirmed.

I can’t resist. Its hard to find lawyer jokes that are related to boating, but if you look hard enough…

Two lawyers had been stranded on a deserted island for several months. The only other thing on the island was the tall coconut tree, that provided them their food. Each day, one of the lawyers climbed to the top of the tree, to see if he could see a rescue boat coming.

One day, the lawyer yelled down from the tree, “Wow! I can’t believe my eyes! I don’t believe this is true!” The lawyer on the ground was skeptical and said, “I think you’re hallucinating and you should come down right now.” So, the lawyer reluctantly climbed down the tree and told his friend that he had just seen a naked blonde woman floating face up headed toward their island.

The other lawyer started to laugh, thinking his friend had surely lost his mind. But, within a few minutes up to the beach floated a naked blonde woman, face up, totally unconscious. The two lawyers went over to her and one said to the other, “You know we’ve been on this island for months now, without a woman. It’s been a long time…do you think we should, you know, screw her?”

The other lawyer glanced down at the totally naked woman and asked, “Out of what?”

An Associate Justice of the Supreme Court was sitting by a river when a Traveler approached and said:

“I wish to cross. Will it be lawful to use this boat?”

“It will,” was the reply; “it is my boat.”

The Traveler thanked him, and pushing the boat into the water embarked and rowed away. But the boat sank and he was drowned.

“Heartless man!” said an Indignant Spectator. “Why did you not tell him that your boat had a hole in it?”

“The matter of the boat’s condition,” said the great jurist, “was not brought before me.”

A priest, a lawyer and a rabbi are marooned on a desert island surrounded by man-eating sharks. After a while their food and water run out and they are in danger of death.

Just then an otherwise empty rowboat containing a large barrel of water comes floating by. The three castaways are in agony – they must have the water, but to swim through the hungry sharks is certain death.

The lawyer says he will try it – the others beg him not to, saying “It’s hopeless”.

The lawyer swims out to the boat, grasps the painter rope in his teeth and tows it back to shore.

The sharks completely ignore him. When he gets back to shore they all begin talking at once:

      PRIEST: It’s a miracle! It’s a miracle!.
      LAWYER: That was no miracle.
RABBI: Well, what do you call it?
LAWYER: Where I come from, we call that “professional courtesy”.
