Anybody trucked their 424 over land?

Anyone able to quickly tell me the height from the base of the keel to
the top of the highest fixed part of the boat (which is either the top
of the companionway or the top of the push or pullpits)?

Looks like it will still be a few years before we can leave Colorado, so
having the boat here for continued work where I have a full wood and
metal shop makes a lot more sense to use than trips back and forth
across the country to work in a yard.

Any knowledge on this would be appreciated.

      Pete

Quickly, and I can explain later when I have more time. The pulpits have to come off.
Other than that your good. Some states will require an escort because of the beam. The trucking company will take care of all of that.
I had my trucked from Fla to NY 7 years ago. 4300.$$

I had Xanadu trucked from Newburyport, MA, to Toronto three years ago at a cost of about $2900.  They kept the bow pulpit on.  It depends how low they can load the keel in the trailer.  I think that as long as they can stay under 13' 6″, they are good to go.  It all depends on the trucker and the route they take.  Same goes for the escort, the trucker that I used ran it without one and it saved me $1500,

I ship my boat home for storage each winter. The boat is about 13′ 4″. The
highest points are the bow pulpit and the davits. The shipper adjusts the
boat on the trailer to make it even. The shipping company has remarked on
several occasions that it tows well. The hull is stiff and doesn’t sway on
the trailer. Make sure they don’t block the keel where its hollow.

      Hope this helps
      Regards
      Rich

Hmm, my shipper uses a steel shoe under the keel. This lowers the boat on the trailer by about 6″. Wish I had photos.

I had one trucker tell me the “magic number” is 12’6″, but he might be
also accounting for his trailer in that number.

Correction… the magic number the trucker was talking about was the
beam. Over 12′ and you need a pilot car. Over 14′ and you need two
      pilot cars.

The Over Size width and pilot cars depends on the states he goes through, the time of day he goes through them and the weekday.

      FYI
Pete, Dale did not use any escorts form stuart fla. to Mystic Ct.And the boat was here in 30 hrs. @ that time it was $3000.00 We had picked it up in Tortola in Jan and when we started up the icw it got cold and things like water pumps, belts ,heads stared to fail so thats when I decided to truck her the rest of the way oh not to mention being stuck in George town for three days with a exhuast elbow problem and molases in the fuel tank When we hit florida I had had enough lol.

Actually it was in the last century.  The current century began Jan 1, 2001.
