SpectatorI was looking in the gallery, archive and my own list of all your upgrades and I can’t find any stories on relocating the main sheet winch on the cabin top.
Mine is horribly placed and you can’t turn a winch handle on it. Has anyone else moved their winch inboard and if so how did you handle the routing of the main sheet itself?
Seems like it might not really be possible to do what I think shoudl be done without routing the line under the traveler, which doesn’t really seem to viable either.Any thoughts?

ModeratorHi,
You can move them inboard a little, but the best solution I have is an
8″ handle. With the relatively small main, you don’t need the full 10
” handle. You could also move the winch farther aft.

Pat,
Here’s where I moved mine (photo attached). Plenty of room for the handle to swing 360°, and the main sheet made the slight adjustment inboard without any modification to its lead. I made the dodger after I had moved the winch, so its entry slot was made to align with the winch’s new position.

ParticipantThere is picture of where I moved my winch. Further inboard then Tor’s. No story. I routed the mainsheet through the riser for the traveler. Had to move the deck mounted cheek block also. Easy to get at, as it’s right over the galley cabinet . Had to make up a teak riser for the winch to sit on to get a fair lead.
