Someone here, I don’t recall who, had found a direct replacement for the little round brake shoe type pad for the prop lock. Am I mistaken?
On the way down the Jersey coast last week, all of a sudden the prop starting turning. Upon inspection today, the little round pad is not there….. not in the bilge either.
I’s much prefer a direct replacement than carving up a brake shoe.
      Any ideas?

It’s a go kart brake pad.

I take that back, I think. I removed the unit this morning, cleaned it all up and took it apart. Upon further inspection there may never have been a brake pad in there….. well, maybe in the beginning. It has to have 2 – 1/4 steel dowel pins that are pused in via a cam that is acturated by a hydralic cyclinder.. They (the pins) may be worn though. I can’t believe someone would design something that would have two steel pins rubbing on the steel ‘disk” to keep the prop from turning. If there was a “pad” in it, it would have had to be a pretty thin pad, considering the opening it has to go in.

I need some information on the prop locks since I now have a fixed campbell prop and no more Maxi.-Is it bad to let the prop turn?I remember some email strings stating maybe that it’s ok.

I can’t take credit for the find, but I saved the link.

The metal disc is a backing plate for the pins to press against. The space is ajustable, you have to tighten as the pad wears. The pad on the other side of the rotor is the smaller one and has a screw to hold it in place on mine. I had to drill and counter sink the head when I got the replacement puck but the material worked easily.

      Thanks Rich,
Looks like thre are pins on one side and a pad on the other. The thickness of the new pad will have to be reduced to 3/8 in order to fit. Not sure how I am going to do that here….
      thanks

There should be a pad on both sides of the rotor. The one that supplies the pressure has a stainless backing plate where the pins push that looks like a fifty cents piece. The caliper floats on the pin where it is secured at the top. There should be two nuts there one is a locking nut. You should be able to adjust it out to fit the pad in place. You may need to move the lever at the top to see how the cam works.

Ah… I am missing a puck on side then. So, the pucks will fit in stock thickness then. Take the two halves apart and it should work. Right?

no puck, no backing plate. Just two worn pins.

I’ll have to see what I can find when the new puck arrive.
Unfortunately, I am in Annapolis on my way to Norfolk this week.
