ParticipantThe stops are what determine the pitch of the prop. If the stops were not serviced properly it could very well be getting jammed into place. Plan on removing it for service. I'd budget for a new prop as getting this serviced might prove to be a challenge. It's Monday and this is all worst case information. Lack of lube could have resulted in this, moot now.
The nice thing about the Prowell is that the length of the hub results in a threaded stub that will probably allow a fixed prop to fit on with no issues (two nuts and a cotter pin). The maxx prop doesn't often permit this.
Reason why you should dry fit your spare when out of the water and not assume it will work.If you want pitch information for a 3 bladed fixed let me know and I'll wander down to the boat and get it.

Hi Chuck,
Thank you very much for your insight. I do have the original fixed bladed prop as a spare on board, but since my shaft brake does not work, I did not want to use this prop. I suspect the prop was not greased after being sent to be polished. It was working fine for 3 hours of use so I assumed everything had been done right.
many thanks,

ParticipantJoe, if the shaft brake is still in place you could insert a wedge into the caliper if doing extended sailing.

Good idea, thanks. I think that’s what I’m going to do..put my fixed prop back on and repair the prowell elsewhere…if it’s even repairable.
