Just picked up my 4 injectors from service shop. One was hung up and the other 3 had a lot of carbon on them, but were working ok. I hope this solves my white smoke and soot on transom problems!

Tech told me the carbon build up is due to a lot of running engine at idle. He said to be sure to run the engine hard at least for a few minutes whenever using the engine.

These injectors had about 300 hours since new.
I’ll have to wait for next season to see the results!

Rodd, install new injector seats when you put them back in.  Some anti seize isn't a bad idea either.  The copper stuff they sell at NAPA is fine.

Don't run it hard with no load on it.

For those of us on moorings or on a hook, idling is hard to avoid. If you just need a little power a small inverter-generator might be an answer but some of us need to run the engine. We’ve discussed this at some length. I almost bought a second-hand inverter generator last fall, but decided to hold off. I want something big enough to make hot water but small enough to stow under my cockpit table. I still don’t see a practical solution. In the past I’ve taken to running the boat out for about a half-hour and then back to the mooring. That gets old pretty quick however. I typically run my engine at about 1000 Rpm for an hour or so each day unless I’ve taken her out somewhere. I have soot on my transom with only 300 hrs on the engine. No smoke from the engine however. The soot wipes off with some spray cleaner and a rag. I think its unburnt fuel.

Rich, the Honda 2000eu or i will not only charge your batteries in about an hour, but will heat your water in another half hour.  You can get three days of this behavior on a single tank of gas (1 gal).  It fits easily between the mizzen and pedestal.  It is exactly a inverter-generator.  The downside is that some older AC motors used for refrigeration for example won't run properly (Grunnert is one).

RICH – I totally concure with Bob. I live on the hook 7 out of 12 months, and for the last 3 yrs, the 2000 eu has done. everything for me (except run the Cruisairs) in less than 2 hours a day. — Aside from my KISS, the best money I’ve spent on the boat, and it stows perfectly between the mizzen and the petestal.

Can I second the motion even though I’m the third one?

      Chuck-
The rubber injection seats are original. Where would I get new ones, from Westerbeke?

The injection seats are the copper crush washer that drops in the hole before you put the injector back in.  Any Westerbeke distributor should be able to set you up with these.  Engines One in Norfolk is one.

In the Westerbeke W60 manual it's described at an 'atomizer seal washer' (I think its page A25) and shows a diagram of how it is oriented for installation.  Looking through the parts blow up, I don't see the item listed though.

Oh, I get it!! Yes, the rebuild shop did give me new copper washers. I thought you were referring to the rubber cushioned mounts on top of the block that the injector sits on. I also plan to replace the small washers that go on the banjo bolts.

      Thanks Chuck.

the EU-2000 won’t fit under my cockpit table. I suppose I could make a new table. I have engine-driven refrigeration however.
