Just in case anyone was following.
UNABATED is now anchored in Simpson Bay, St Martin. After an 850 mile passage from Bermuda we arrived just in time to make the bridge.
Stop in for a rum if your in the neighborhood.

      Congratulations, Alan!!!

      So what are your plans?

I am in Grenada, and will head north at least to Gaudeloupe and possibly Antigua, before returning to Trinidad. Will you be heading south from St.Martin?

      Alan,

On your sail south from Bermuda, can you tell me at what latitudes you found (a) the northern limit of the Horse Latitudes, and (b) the beginning of the trade winds?

      Thanks,

      Tor

      Tor,
If you have been watching the GRIB files for the last week you’d have seen something the forecasters have said is quiet rare. We had southerly winds from bermuda to almost a little south of 20N.
Sailed the last 36 hours – motored the previous 72 – motored sailed the rest. Used almost 80 gal. of fuel. at 1900 rpm ( 1g/hr)
      Took 30 gal on deck.
Might change when you get out there
Let me know when you get here, I’ll save a warm beer for you.

Wow, Alan, to quote one fine old nautical summation, that sucks. I do hope the winds return to a more “normal” pattern by the time I’m out there. I don’t know Grib (and he probably doesn’t know me, either), but I do have pilot charts. I guess the best I can do is what I’ve done, i.e., plot a course according to the averages and then see what I get when I get there. That, or just follow Don Street’s advice, which I shared with you all a month or so ago.

      Thanks,

      Tor
