Anyone have ideas on which way the shaft comes out of the base? Exploded drawing isn’t very helpful.
Thanks,

ParticipantPatrick: Our boat still has the original Sea Tiger, so I can’t help you there. I scanned your photos though and expecially noted the sea cock pix. It looks like you just cut out the whole assembly from the hull. Was it that much of a horror story to get it out? Lady Leanne has one that is frozen open (head sink) and one that doesn’t completely close. I’m sure they are original and I’m now wondering how big a job this will be. Any guidance as I plan for haul out? Thanks

A Mototool with fiberglass cutting discs cuts bronze easily. That is what we used to remove all our thru-hull fittings. On 3/4″ fittings, make diagonal cuts from outside to remove the mushroom head from the fitting. 1 1/2″ fittings are easier since the cutting disc will fit inside the thru-hull and you can simply cut off the fitting from outside just above the mushroom head. Then you can simply pull out the seacock from inside.

RichCarterParticipantHave you tried injecting grease into the frozen sea-cock? You unscrew the drain plug on the side of the seacock and screw in a grease fitting. They you take a grease gun and pump some grease in there. Then work the handle back and forth a few times. I haven’t yet found a fitting I can’t free up with this technique.

ParticipantRich: I’ve tried the grease gun approach but I guess I’m scared of putting a wrench on these old fittings. I think I’ll try injecting some liquid wrench first and let it percolate.
Patrick: I now understand how your sea cock was mounted. The pix made it look like you had to cut out a square piece of hull with it (MADE MY EYES BIG).

I am in the same boat, so to speak. The sea cock for my sink is frozen open, too. I am being hauled out in late January at Ft. Pearce and this is one of the items at the top of my list.
