I tried a product called Evapo-rust today to remove the rust from the
plate of my shaft brake, the tranny couplings, and the tranny case. I
was a bit skeptical. The stuff is not an acid but rather a chelating
system. You just soak the metal in it for 30 minutes to overnight and
rinse (I used a soft nylon brush when I rinsed). Once and done – the
rust is gone. The metal looks brand new.

Where has this stuff been all my life?

I wonder how it would do on the inside of the V-drive cooling jacket.

I can’t imagine the molecules know the difference between inside and
      outside surfaces ;^)

The thing is to get off any other gunk first to get the best results.
