ParticipantI was reading previous blogs about holding tank installation under floor behind the mast. For those of you who added the tank, what was the dimentions of the tank without having to rip up the floor.
We have an electra sans, and are trying to add a holding tank for the head.
thanks

ModeratorHi Adam,
It turns out I have one for just that purpose – I purchased it and then realized that that area is a great storage area so installed the tank in the deep part of the bilge – The tank is still in it's saran wrap shipping stuff…

ParticipantAdam,
Funny you should ask… I just removed a complete and unused holding tank system from my boat. It includes all the 3-way valves, mascerator pump, electric tank level gauge, fittings, etc.
It fit right in front of the Electro-san (also have one of those to offer). It fit through the sole hatch. I secured it with some small blocks fiberglassed in the corners (not adhered to the tank, just serving as stops in the corners) to hold the tank in the x and y axes and I put a horizontal piece of wood over the tank with a piece of plywood screwed into the floor beam over the tank to hold the tank on the vertical axis).
We are going to fit a composting head and also sell off our Skipper head (which is a great head, if you are going to have a pumping head).
Let me know if you are interested in any or all of this stuff (or anyone else who is).
All the best for the new year!
Pete

ParticipantThanks for the reply. Bob and pete, what are the actual dimensions of your tanks, and what is your asking price?
Also how did you put the tank in the bilge?
Thanks for your help

I was crawling around in the area where the exhaust/cooling water exits the boat the other day and I was shocked by what I saw. The exhaust hose appeared to be disintegrating and I vowed to replace the hose. I finally got around to doing the deed today. The job went much easier than I had anticipated.
But here is what I learned. An exhaust hose that looks bad probably is very bad. Where the exhaust hose attaches to the exhaust pipe I had a 4 or 5 mm hole. There were three or four spots on the hose where the reinforcing wire had rusted through and had pierced the hose so there was bare wire protruding from the hose. There were also numerous places on the hose that appeared to have broken wires just under the surface of the hose.
I hate to think what would have happened if I had simply blown off my initial concerns about that hose. I don’t know for sure, but I’ll bet the hose was original to the boat. I have hull #47 with a Perkins M 4-108 so someone changed engines somewhere along the way. You would think that installing a new exhaust hose would be a part of a re-engine project.
You all might want to take a good long look at your exhaust hose.
