ParticipantI just installed a West Marine AIS-1000 Class B on Syringa. At my slip in Birch Bay I can pickup ship 18 Miles away in Bellingham. (Very Cool) It gives me the name, speed, bearing and much more. I got the unit for $450 after a $50 West Marine sale. It has a built in GPS and was a snap to install. I am running it on a Garmin 440S and my Laptop (Maptech Chart Navigator Pro) at the same time one in the cockpit the other in the Nav Station. Here is a link if you would like more info http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/371822/377%20710/0/ais/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377%20710&Ne=0&Ntt=ais&Ntk=Primary%20Search&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=ais&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=5003&subdeptNum=3&classNum=10880

Patti & I don’t know where we’re going (how far north) or how long we’ll be gone, we’re just going cruising. We are looking for some better weather right now, it’s no fun sailing in the rain and cold for week’s on end. We did the Alaska trip in are last boat a few years back so we are going to look at some new areas this time out. If the weather is good and we are having fun we should be out about four or five months.
Very nice photo of you & Dawn on your blog (lucky man).
