We had a hinged wind vane with our Sailomat on Easy Reach. Thje hinge was simple affair–some holes drilled in each section of light plywood held together with shock cord which allowed the upper portion to bend with the mizzen boom in case of a jibe.

That sounds like a smart arrangement, Norris. I’d love to see some photos of
      it.

I’d be interested to see how that works as well. There’s gotta be something
more than shock cord holding the pieces of the vane together. Otherwise it
would seem that the top of the vane would bend off to leeward making it less
effective – I must be missing something.
