SpectatorAnyone have good pics of how our main and mizzen outhauls are rigged? I’m
not 100% sure how it went together and I don’t have any good pictures of the
“before”.Our refit is in the final stretch.. I’ll do a bunch of before and after pics
soon.Thanks!

ParticipantHi Don (and Pat),
I’m having trouble logging into the forum.
Don – I wanted to speak with you regarding your boat (I went and looked at her
last weekend… very nice). Is there someplace I can reach you offline
(email)… or drop me a note if you like, atPat – if you could re-activate my account, i’d appreciate it greatly. I know my
name/password are still in the database… they just appear to be turned off. Thanks,
Paul Audi

Syringa
ParticipantPaul
e-mail me at lighthms@comcast.net about Syringa (right now I’m having seller’s remorse). I love working on her and had a great sail to day ago. I’m going down to the boat to adjust rudder packing and clean a small bilge pocket. -

SpectatorSyringa has a 2:1 internal as seen here:
http://www.harken.com/rigtips/Outhaul.phpI’m thinking I could use a 4:1 external cascade with a wire rope on the
first section which would allow me to use the existing wire rope outhaul
slide. I cleaned mine up and lubed the pulley and it seems in good shape
(and expensive to replace).I’m going to start piecing this together…. anyone have suggestions on how
much travel I’ll need? I’m thinking 4-6″ seems plenty. Have to bring the
mainsail back down to the boat to get a measure on things.-p

ParticipantOn the port side of my boom there is a small winch. My outhaul just uses a 2:1 purchase and the line is led to the winch. Even at 25 knots, there is no problem adjusting the outhaul. My only issue is that, the track it was mounted on is 7/8″.vI can not find a replacement cheek block that was mounted there. (check block with a slide) so I I am just using a standard block with the wire from the outhaul.to the top of the block.

SpectatorAH, I do remember that now… In fact, I remember in January thinking what
is this cheek block mounted to a slide for. 😉I think the 4:1 system will be an improvement. I might throw a rope clutch
in there too. Going to take my outhaul slider to the chandlery and lay it
all out tonight.-p

SpectatorHere’s a drawing with the Harken parts I plan to use. This might get
modified when I go to Fisheries and lay it all out in front of me.-p
