RichCarterParticipantThat’s the scoop, thanks! “Bell no longer required by Federal Regulations”
You get the No-Bell prize.

Here’s why I keep my bell.
Cocktail hour, great for announcing and terminating.
Dinner time, same.
Crew worth observing on an adjacent boat, notification.
Those who have been to Rio and drunk Chopp at a palapa on Avenida Atlantica
know what I mean.WAVEMAKER

Hey, here’s a thought. You could ring the bell when anchored in pea-soup fog
to warn other vessels of your presence. Hmmm.

I did that once. Other vessel was Adam. I’m dead serious. Can you imagine? A
year ago last August. Worst fog either of us had ever seen. Pt Judith. No,
he didn’t wake up.

I think the bell was required for boats anchored or perhpads hove to the idea being that the rolling of the vessel would ring the bell “automatically” as is sometimes the case with bouys carrying bells, gongs, etc.
Another reason for the bell. The daughters of Easy Reach’s new owner love its sound and love to ring it.

ParticipantI thought he was serving breakfast. As it was 3 am, I’d already eaten, plotted the day’s courses, changed my oil and liposuctioned the ship’s cat. Damned canned cat food.

ParticipantAs the new owner of Easy Reach #206, I can confirm what Norris said about my daughters and the Bell. More importantly, Norris used it as a signaling device if he or any crewmember at the helm needed assistance from another crew member in the cabin by running a light line to the helm so that a simple tug would do the job. Will keep the bell and the line.
