ParticipantI am considering putting in a Mermaid Heat Pump, the 16k btu w/18.5k btu heat. have room in the space under the v berth and only need to eliminate the bottom drawer. Believe I can use the thru hull for the fwd head.(c-layout). Query, is this capacity sufficient, any experience with this unit, any pitfalls to look out for? Additionaly, does any one have an Espar heater and where is it located?

I mounted the ESPAR in the starboard lazerette where the horizontal and vertical
support meet. As a point of interest I chose to start in the V berth and work
aft. It worked for me.lee

ParticipantI purchased the Mermaid unit and installed it about 1 1/2 years ago. It has performed well with both a/c and heat. Purchased direct from Mermaid and the staff was very helpful with installation. The unit was mounted inside hanging locker next to 2nd companion way with ducts forward and aft. Happy so far.

ParticipantI also have the 16K btu model installed similar to Adam’s install.
Have used it for 3 summers.
We sail on the Southern Chesapeake Bay. We have been very satisfied. On the
hottest of days it struggles to keep the temp in the low to mid 70s but the
significantly reduced humidity makes up for it. On the hottest of days we’ll
turn off the AC to the aft cabin and close the door to the aft cabin, this
seems to help.
I’ve also found the Mermaid factory staff very helpful. I installed a
Mermaid 16K btu on our last boat (ODay 34) and used it for 4 years without
any problems.
The Honda 2000 generator should run it if you were desperate and not on the
grid.Rick
