Dave Crawford built the set-he’s back in Oriental-I’ll see if he has the
drawings.Once he got started,it was fit in place, and less dependence on
drawings.He fabricated 3 sets,one Pearson 424,Bavaria 40, and Beneteau 50.If you
can weld SS I’m sure you could do it.Mine was the 2nd set.I’ll contact him for
specifics.I think the original price was around $6000-6500.About the same as
drawing and ordering from a fab shop on the internet-but probably a better fit
and heavier construction. He would fabricate, bring it down on the truck, make new
markings, take it back to the shop, etc
I started out by studying various boats and set ups and super imposing an arch
on my boat photo.Seems like the common rake is around 60 degrees-best I can
recall.I sketched the original dimensions and design and was pretty close to
final result.Dave decided after 3 boats, they were too much work.
I did raise the mizzen 7 to 9 inches to give me head room under a bimini-not
uncommon.I originally intended to use the arch as the aft bimini frame but
after 3 tries we abandoned that and went with a stand alone bimini frame. But did
raise the mounting off the deck by extending the side safety rails along each
coaming.
