I hooked up the new dish last weekend and had a chance to play with it. Power consumption appears to be about one amp. I would guess it to be a little more with some boat movement as can be expected on a mooring but well below the 4 amp rated power consumption.

I have the unit mounted on a short Shakespeare antenna extension pole, approx 4 feet tall. Even though the antenna weighs only about 7 lbs, this is quite a lot of weight for the pole. I found that the pole was not rigid enough so I put a mounting bracket about halfway up the pole to stiffen it. Its OK, but a stronger pole might be better. I haven’t seen anything that looks better however. I’ll send out a photo when I get a chance.

I ordered a new 12v TV to replace the 115v TV I mounted on the boat several years ago. I’ll have to see what it consumes. Its rated for 4.8A. The old TV was a flat-screen but I needed to run the inverter to power it. This new unit should be more energy efficient.

The Honda generator I mounted on the boat isn’t to power the TV while underway. Its to recharge the batteries if I run them down. It should be quieter than running the diesel.

      Rich-
West sells a fitting that attaches to 1″ stainless tubing with a male thread on the end. A stainless tube would be more substantial than plastic.
