SpectatorWell, the engine is in and I think it’s wired up and all hoses
connected. Tomorrow we’ll get fuel and coolant into it and bleed the
lines. So in the process one of the terminals snapped off what I believe is
the temperature switch terminal (pn 30090 according to Torreson).
Please tell me this is a standard automotive part I can get at NAPA.Here’s a pic of the part.

ModeratorYes it is. I think its a VDO part. Look on the gauge to see the
manufacturer. But a good auto store should be able to match. If not,
replacing sensors and gauge which isn’t expensive.Bob
I’m not being terse. This is from my mobile.

ParticipantThe thing is that the sender has to match the gauge. There is a
european and an english version (and perhaps others). It has to do with
the resistance range over the temperature range, and there are different
temperature ranges. On top of that, you have different threads to
consider. VDO even makes lots of versions. Here is a web page that offers lots of temp senders:
http://www.egauges.com/vdo_sgrp.asp?Subgroup=Temperature_SenderAND THEY ARE OPEN UNTIL 2PM ET on SATURDAY.
In the end, I went with a new VDO gauge and matched sender.

RichCarterParticipantAlmost certainly yes. Just bring the old sender down to NAPA and have them match it.

SpectatorOk… We’re back on . That is indeed a switch. The temperature sender
is under the exhaust above the alternator wire is yellow.Learning sooo much about the wiring. This can only be a good thing.

ParticipantThat’s a switch, not a gauge sender. Is the gauge sender somewhere else
on the engine? On 9/17/2011 1:58 PM, Patrick “Peaboy” Walters wrote:
