The original cleats on our boat were marinium cleats, a cast aluminum
alloy. I believe they were made by Wilcox Crittenden. They certainly
were not chrome plated. They are relatively light in feel but heavy
walled. We have several “new” in the basement here that we picked up on
ebay several years ago – I think 2 of them are the 10″ with 4 screw base.As for re-chroming – no experience.

ParticipantThe cleats I have are massive and just over 10″. Definitely not
aluminum. Definitely plated. I can see from the holes I covered that
the original cleats had closer spread mounting holes.I am thinking I might end up with Sea-Dog heavy cleats 041712 (12″) on
the bow and 041710 (10″) on the stern.Pete

ParticipantPete, re-chroming has become really expensive due to commodity pricing. I looked into doing the bronze bang rail. 3K.
Chrome plated bronze holds up really well over time if cared for.
I’ve got a good shop I use in VA Beach if you are interested.Chuck

Participant$3000?
Gosh, what do you think replating a winch drum would cost?

ParticipantNo idea, I’ve seen 48’s at swap meets for a few hundred and figured if I need a drum in better shape that would be the way to go.
