Brilliant, Tor! “Two Bonine afternoon” is pure poetry. Someday I gotta follow in your wake.

      Tor:
Beautiful story of a beautiful place. I was especially impressed with the warm reception from the officials. That’s the part that would have worried me the most. I really want to do that trip so I have a hundred questions. We are planning the Exumas about February and that seems to be a reasonable launch to Hispaniola, though I don’t see that leg happening next year.
I was glad to see you “just did it!”,

Great story!.  Ted and I will be doing the race to Isla Mujeres Mexico from St. Petersburg, FL again for the 21st time next April.  Would love to have 424 owners aboard!

It’s vaguely possible I might be in Isla Mujeres with Silverheels next
      early-spring.

      Good luck in the race!

      Hi Charlie,

Two things to share on your plan. One, depending on time of year, it can
be a hard, even brutal, windward slog against the wind & current from
the Exumas to the eastern end of Hispañola, whichever side (Atlantic or
Caribbean) you chose. (I sailed directly offshore from St. Johns River
(Jacksonville, FL) to and thru the Mona Passage, making all my easting
above the trade winds.) And two, the south coast of Hispañola turned
out to be relatively uninteresting as a cruising ground. Seems like a
country better seen inland, from a jeep. I wouldn’t go out of my way to
sail there again. Isla Beata, DR and Ile a Vache, Haiti were the notable
      exceptions.
