I believe Silverheels’ mainmast collar is much like Alan’s, sans
the doorstop.Tor

What’s this rubber gasket? My boat came with wooden wedges and a canvas cover. The wedges are under a pretty heavy load when the boat is on a tack. I can’t imagine a rubber gasket taking the load without deforming and causing a water leak. I wrap the wooden wedges with a plastic trash-bag and then cover it tightly with duck-tape. The canvas cover just hides the mess. It is not expected to keep water out. I’ve since replaced the original cover several times over the years but the wedges are original.

Rich,
I haven’t been in there since I pulled the mainmast 7 years ago and I do not have a vivid photo-memory of it, but what I remember is very hard white rubber blocks or wedges around the mast where it passed through the coachhouse, or perhaps it was a collar-like wrap or that same hard white rubber as Silverheels has around the small LPG tanks in the original propane locker aft. Pretty sure it’s one of those two. Once the mast was stepped and secure, I covered it with a generic mast boot from Port Supply, which I bedded well. That bedding lasts a couple of years without any leaking at all, then needs to be refreshed, a 30-minute job.

The ring might have been that hard rubber material you pour in around the
mast instead of wedges. Spartite, I think the product is.It’s an aftermarket thing.
