Hi Flite had a 40 gallon bladder under the table until we put in a composting head. Now filled with storage bins.

I just pulled a 15 gallon holding tank from the same location – nasty job. It wasn’t secured and the fittings pretty much fell apart in my hands. Switching to composting head!
I’ll be using the space for batteries and storage.

On Xanadu we have a 30 gal. holding tank mounted vertically in the bilge
aft of the shallow ledge. It was relatively easy to install it there and
run the hoses and macerator. Deck pump out is stbd. side beside the forward
companion way.Jack

Discoverie is a cutter and has a small grey water just aft of the mast and
a 20 gal black water tank in the bilge lateral an a bit aft of the
refrigerator. I’m only in Long Island Sound so there is no macerator. The
grey water tank handles shower water and pumps out automatically. On Monday, September 14, 2015, norris larson via maillist <

Of course my layout is a bit different since I’m in the 422 but also went with a totally different tank design. I general I don’t like the idea of a holding tank that you have to pump out which will inevitably leave some “stuff” in the bottom of the tank so wanted to go with a gravity drain. I sacrificed the cabinets behind the sink in both heads and had custom built tanks that I installed.  Capacities are modest, about 12 and 20 gallons but should be enough for my plans.
The contents drain out the bottom to a Y-valve that can direct the output to the deck pumpout or to the through hull.  Very easy to open the drain to the ocean and flush a lot of water through the system.Â

I haven’t really looked into this in detail, but I think a gravity type
tank could be built into the large top loading bin in the head sink
counter. I would think it could be large enough for 20 -30 gallons of
waste and the plumbing would be relatively easy. If I hadn’t gone the
composting head route, that would have been my first choice for a tank. Of
course then I would have lost all that storage in the bin.Regards,

Hi Greg,
I do have a very detailed drawing.  Let me dig it up and I’ll send it to your email.Â
