Rich,
I don’t know about LED’s, but when I replace my spreader lights I
noticed the swivel mounts were a lot more expensive than solid mounts.
So I got one of each and it worked out great. The fixed mount aims
straight down and the swivel angles onto the foredeck.Tor

john stevensonParticipantPete,
Can you provide a URL for Kimerlite or a source. When I Google it I don’t
get an LED supplier.Regards,
John Stevenson

ParticipantJohn,
I think the spelling was wrong and it is Kimberlite and they are part of the MISEA Group. I see they also bought SCAD.

john stevensonParticipantThanks, Paul.
10 years ago I installed Perko spreader lights. No exterior LEDs back
then, or at least I wasn’t aware of any. The Perko lamps are very bright
(35W Sealed Beam) and draw a lot of juice. However I don’t use the
spreader lights often, and then only for a few minutes – so efficiency has
never been an issue with these lights. The problem I’ve encountered is
bulb longevity. So far I’ve had 4 bulbs burn out, even with the limited
use. At $50 per bulb via WM, those $250 Signal Mate lights are looking
comparatively economical, assuming a typical LED service life. I just
bought my 4th Perko bulb, so I guess I won’t be changing the spreader
lights for at least another year.Regards,

I got mine from Port Supply (WM) 5 years ago, some generic brand with no
marking except “Made in Taiwan.” Don’t use them very often (and yes,
they suck up the amps), but they do the job and haven’t failed yet.Tor

still together as such but the addresses in the website are for the guys

ParticipantI have my spreader lights both on a timer and on a remote control so I
can turn them on from the dinghy at a distance. I wrote an article on
this once… I will see if I can find it again. On 1/12/2012 2:46 PM, John Stevenson wrote:

RichCarterParticipantI bought a pair of TACO LUMA LED deck lights. They may not be as fancy or
as powerful as some of the other units but they were affordable ($60 ea) and
look like they will servie my purpose. I measured less than 200ma at
13.8vdc. This compares with about 5A each for the old spotlights.Regards

Impressive power consumption reduction! Next time I’ll go with LED, too.
