ParticipantI’ve had one of those for about 2 years, I got the one with the built in DVD. It works great. Of course I paid a lot more back then.

ParticipantThe DVD ones are about $150 now in this size. I decided to keep that
external as it will likely be Blu-Ray instead or just play from my computer. On 12/11/2012 3:41 AM, calicojack wrote:

ParticipantPete-
Looks like a nice TV. J&R refers to it on their website as both an LED and a LCD. Which is right?
Thanks,

ParticipantI think LED refers to the source of the back lighting (as opposed to
CCL). I think in either case it is an LCD, though it is listed as “LED”Oh yes, there are several model numbers. I called Naxa and found out
that the difference between the models is the stand design and glossy
versus flatter bezel. Otherwise the same electronics.Pete

ParticipantAlas, I feel the need to warn everyone on this product. If you buy it, test it immediately when you get it. As someone described on Amazon product reviews on this TV, if it has a major picture defect as mine did right out of the box, Naxa calls it a “cracked screen” and voids the warranty. There was no evidence of trauma on the TV or the packaging.
Had they not voided the warranty, it still would have to be shipped to California at my expense and I would also have to pay an additional $25.
JR has agreed to take it back, but only if it has bit of the original packaging.
A shame, really. This would a nice little TV if it worked and the company supported it.

Quent,
We’ve all dealt with companies who didn’t live up to acceptable standards.
I’ve had some success, occasionally remarkable success, by pestering them.
UPS made good literally 8 minutes after I posted a scathing, 100% true
report of their blunder on their Facebook page. When Morgan Stanley was
screwing me around I spent 20 minutes calling their various phone numbers
asking for the name and number of the president of the company and getting
passed along to supervisors and so on until I reached an “executive liaison”
whose job is to keep jerks like me from bothering the president. He resolved
my problem immediately. (Same thing happened with another big corporation,
but that time it was the president’s “personal secretary.” Amazing the power
she wielded with just one phone call telling her people she did not want to
hear from me again.) Last week a shoe company sent me a new replacement pair
of the sandals that broke too soon after I’d bought them, but only after I
sent them a copy of a Review I had posted on Amazon.Really, I’m not a habitual complainer – these examples are spread out over
many years – but neither am I inclined to roll over and die when companies
screw me. Almost all of them will own up to their shortcomings if you make
the effort to motivate them. And it’s great fun when you win!Good luck,
Tor

RichCarterParticipantI purchased a 22″ Skyworth 12v TV on ebay a couple of years back. It seems to work great and was inexpensive. Power consumption is low. My only complaint is that I can’t seem to find a single remote control that works both the Tv and the Satellite dish set-top box.

ParticipantHi Tor-
I’m retired from government, so I’ve been on both sides of the angry complaint. Amazing how many times someone who answers complaints will simply get their back up and not listen to a legitimate problem. Organizations, as you point out, sometimes won’t respond until colateral damage is obvious. In this case, the retailer to their credit relented when I promised a candid review on Amazon. TV is all boxed up, ready to go back at their expense.
TV was for Harvey, our new to us stealth van RV. Named after the invisible rabbit since our community has a rule against RVs, but not vans. You have inspired us to do a little land cruising this year. Thanks again for the advice.
Will pull a 13″ TV/dvd player out of Clairebuoyant, replace it with a 19″ TV from the house. Who knows what DVDs Claire will take on Harvey. She has Perfect Storm and Titanic on the boat.

Congratulations on resolving your TV problem. Nothing since the US
Constitution has given more Power to the People than the internet. It’s good
to know how to use it.As for Harvey, go for it!
Happy trails,

PS: I’ve decided to skip the open road this summer and am instead sailing
Silverheels back down to the Grenadines. Here’s hoping that’s far enough
south this storm season.PPS: Personally, I would NEVER watch “The Perfect Storm” or “Titanic” on the
boat. I’d never leave port again!3PS: I haven’t owned a TV in 30 years or more. Caught a glimpse of “American
Idol” last year and concluded I’d made the right call.Quote:

ParticipantHi Pete-
I’m sure it is a great TV if you get a good one. Also, I’ve got no problem with the retailer. I just should have paid attention to their 30 return policy. In the end, J&R did the right thing. My message is only beware of the manufacturer’s warranty policy, and open it when you get it.
Thought about following Tor’s advice and leaving the TV out but they are good for local weather and stuff like that. I think dry camping in Walmart lots across the country, I’d cave on getting one anyway. Might as well do it now.
