For primary ground tackle Discoverie has 150′ of Acco BBB and 350′ of Yale
8-strand braid. I had to extend the hawse hole to below the floor of the
original rode hold. It’s only the second season for this tackle; so I don’t
have a wear and tear report yet.

considering? In the past it was a no brainer, go with Acco, but I have
seen a number of complaints about Acco galvanizing in the last year or so.
Generic Chinese chain is not an option I would consider. Maggi Italy I
hear is entering the US market but I don’t know much about their QC.
Any other options?<.. snip>

Hey Tor,
I have to come up with something like this as we have to knock down the
pile at least every 25′. It’s fine when both of us are here (still a PITA)
but a few times I’ve moved alone and have to run down the forward
companionway after making sure the anchor hasn’t broken free. Going to have
plenty of time in Grenada this summer, maybe then.Ken

it’s not so ugly anymore. 😉Tor

Ken,
I did mine down-islands after a particularly scary single-handed Chinese fire drill when the chain piled up and jammed the windlass while weighing anchor. Five minutes with a hole saw gave me the access I needed to knock down the piled chain ever since. I sealed the edges of the hole with a coating of epoxy and stuffed something into it temporarily – I don’t remember what – until I came up with a proper deck cap to install.
I didn’t know you had made it to the Grenadines already. Way to go! I plan to get back down there by next spring.

Tor,
Sitting in Portsmouth,Dominica at this time. I didn’t mention my Chinese
fire drill in St Thomas alone, blowing like stink, HAD to move the boat per
police orders, chain jamming at the hawse hole below the gypsy, swinging
wildly jam, un-jam, Then NOTHING!! popping the breaker running back and
forth, jam, un-jam , pop a breaker … yeah, did that, avoiding a repeat
performance at all costs. I checked out some options, I’ll do something
similar to yours. KISSKen
