He’s a new project I just finished that I thought might interest the group. Elevated cockpit seats.
For as long as I’ve had the boat I’ve had a hard time seeing while driving her. That and no cup-holder convenient to the helm which is just criminal! Finally I broke down and decided to do something about it.
Initially I was going to have two supports, one flat and one angle so that the seat would be flat while the boat was heeled. I was going to use SS pins to secure it to each rail. But then I decided I was over thinking it and I just made them flush, which seems to work very well.
IT’s a very straightforward project, the back of the seat is supported by a 1×1” piece of hdpe plastic from Mcmaster Carr. The legs are 7/8” SS rail and 90 degree mounts from West Marine.
The Seats themselves are “seafoam” color starboard which matches the color of the gelcoat almost exactly. Total cost probably about $150.I used a scrap piece of starboard as a foot on the propane locker, and hinged the board on that side for easy access to the propane bottles. The Stbd side is screwed in permanently.
I was going to do something with the space beneath but the dog has sort of commandeered the spot as ‘hers’ when sailing so I may just leave it be šPictures here: http://ontheboat.net/gallery2/v/Ra/Projects/seats/

Because I’ve been cleaning and throwing crap away š
I replaced the lifesling with a inflatable that’s way less awkward. I mounted the stern anchor outboard and I made a new bracket for the outboard motor. I also got rid of the gps antenna and put a mounted one one the unit itself on the binnacle.
What’s missing that I should have there?
