I like the idea of them, Pete, but have never actually
seen (let alone used) one. No complaints about the
old-fashioned (but not old) Raritan I have, though. One
      rebuild in 7 years.

Love my 5 gal bucket with a computer fan and $100 diverter….., the wife
too! No hassle, no mess, no pump, no stink, not even any noise while
using. it’s just not like any of the “others.” The storage space alone
without the tank and plumbing is priceless!
It’s just too damn simple! I may have to adjust “my” rig for a port tack at
      sea but it’s doable!

Brilliant, Ken! Reminds me of my old army days, latrines with a hole over a drum with just enough diesel to burn the stuff later. Sometimes they would use gasoline instead, in which case you always wanted to beat the smoker next to you outta there, before he threw the cigarette butt in the can.

Could you post pics with the vent and fan included. This seems like a no brainer to me but my wife may need some convincing.

Linus, if you look at the first picture of the box from the top, you can see a black cylinder type thing about 1 1/4″ dia going through the wall in the upper right of the picture, that’s the out going vent, very small. The fan is just on the other side of that bulkhead drawing air out of the sealed box being directed into a typical hull vent just like for a holding tank. I did step the hull vent up a notch from typical 5/8″ in size to a 3/4″ vent with a stainless steel screen inserted. The intake air to the box is down through the sole out of sight in the picture into the bilge with the same 1 1/4″ dia and the same screen. With a completely sealed box of maybe 2 cubic feet of air, it doesn’t require moving a tremendous amount of air, it just wants to keep some moving through the box. The fan is the smallest I could find with the absolute least amount of draw, something like .03 amps. I believe the sealing of the box and lid is the key. Anyway, it’s working for us and my wife has the magic power to say I don’t like it and I’m committed to go conventional holding tank etc bullshit! She is still VERY happy with it so far.
