My hatches are Bomar and cost about $900 to replace. Is the Ocean 60 less? I haven’t replaced the bad one yet? Jim

john stevensonParticipantJim,
Around the same price for the Lewmar 60s at WM and Defender. I much prefer
the operation of the Lewmars to the old Bomars. The Lewmars can be dogged
very quickly and mine have never leaked. Bomar does make hatches with
extruded aluminum frames similar to the Lewmars. I would have purchased
those in 2001 except they were not a drop-in replacement for the old Bomar
hatches at that time.On Mon, Sep 13, 2010 at 12:58 PM, James Roberts <>wrote:

All I replaced was the Lexan and the aluminum frame that holds it.
When I called Lewmar the guy on the other end of the phone steered me away from
buying a complete unit, a recommendation that saved me significant amounts of $.
It would have save lots of time too, except for the fact that I re-beded all of
my hatches.lee

Nope. I had Lewmar hatches that a PO had installed. One of the hatches (the
hatch just aft of the mast) leaked. It leaked because the seal between the lexan
and the aluminum failed. You are on Puget Sound, aren’t you? Do you live aboard? Where is your boat?

ParticipantI purchased Bomar low profile hatches that were a good drop in fit for the
larger 2 hatches.I also replaced the smaller one over the galley with a slightly
smaller Bomar low profile-using half inch star board between the two to raise
the hatch one half inch but more importantly mount it.________________________________

Joe,
I am a visitor here in Gig Harbor and I have been remiss in my efforts to search
out marinas that allow dock walkers.I think Patrick “Peaboy” Walters is a permanent resident of the Puget Sound area
so he would be a better source of information. I always enjoy getting together
with fellow 424 owners. We had several 424 folks at last year’s Annapolis show
and it was a blast putting the faces together with the names. If you get in
contact with Peaboy and plan something, I’d love to join in.Lee

For those Pearson 424 and 422 owners who desire a Lewmar size 60 drop in
hatch replacement, be sure to go to the Defender web site pronto, as they
have a limited supply of a special buy for only $250 per hatch. I just
bought 4 yesterday and they have at least 12 left. A very good deal.Brad Moynahan
