ParticipantI recently upgraded my propane stove and have this to offer. It was in working order the last time I used it. It is a 3 burner propane stove and oven by Hillerange. I chucked the old cabin lights in the garbage a while back only to read someone wanted them and felt bad.
Happy Thanksgiving to All,

ParticipantAdam,
I could put it to good use by combining it with the one
I have, the best of both units. Where is it located?Tor

ParticipantThank you, Alan. I’ve kept Silverheels’ original
Hillrange working, but one burner is pretty much
unusable now, most of the knobs have been replaced by
generics that don’t fit, and the oven door hinge is
half busted. Perhaps between yours and mine I could
create a whole, fully-functional unit – with parts to
spare! The problem is logistics and timing. I believe it would
be worth the cost of UPS ground to me to get your
Hillrange to my homeport boat yard in NE Florida once
I’m there, but I don’t expect to be back for at least 6
months, maybe a year and 6 months if I decide to keep
cruising in the spring. So, if your old Hillrange is in
your way or if someone takes it off your hands sooner,
c’est la vie. I still appreciate the offer. If on the
other hand you still have that beauty when I get back
to the States, I’d be delighted to pay the shipping and
have it.Much appreciated,
Tor

ParticipantTor, I would be happy to hold it for you. I’ll just put I in the shed and store it. I saved the box from the new stove to use for shipping this one out.
If it weren’t for having to work, I’d just sail down and deliver it to you myself!

ParticipantHI Tor,
I still have the original Hillerange in my boat as well. The burners and knobs are OK (so far) but I need some parts for the oven. If you don’t need oven parts then how about we split the cost of the shipping to FL and mutually cannibalize the poor thing?
If you are going back to Green Cove I hope to be there to launch in the next couple of months (or three or ……) but I’m just in Gainesville so not that far. If you are delayed getting back and Adam wants to get the stove out of the garage we can ship it here and get together when you’re back.

PS
Adam, do you know if the oven is/was working on the Hillerange? -
December 3, 2013 at 12:23 pm #80376
Tor
ParticipantSkip,
That sounds fine to me. My unit’s oven is fine. (I
rebuilt it last year.) From Adam’s Hillrange I could
use the knobs, a couple of the stovetop knob
mechanisms, maybe a top burner or two, and one or two
stovetop grills if they’re in decent shape. Ultimately,
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at Green Cove
Springs Marina even finds a secondary use for the
stripped out box. Nothing wasted!Tor

RichCarterParticipantI replaced my Hillerange with a new Hillerange about 3 years ago. The new stove is a drop-in replacement. It’s a nicer design however. It has electric igniters and thermal sensors that cut off the gas if the flame burns out. The stove locks in position when not in use so it doesn’t knock the top counter section off when the boat heels. My only complaint is that the door lacks a positive latch so the door can pop open if the stove is locked in position when underway. I use a strap to tie the handle off.
The old stove was pretty beat-up so I just tossed it. Sorry, I didn’t think of offering parts.

ParticipantYears ago I contacted the company directly asking about knobs. The rep asked for my address and I asked if he needed a credit card and he said no.
Got shiny new knobs about a week later. Worth a try again I’d sayLinus

ParticipantHi Tor,
Don’t want to hijack your stove deal but would it be OK with you to get it shipped to me in Gainesville so I can go ahead and grab some of the oven parts. Would of course first save any parts you want for yours. I mainly need the two over control parts, the one attached to the knob on top and the other which could be inside the oven or inside the back of the top, depending on the model.
Understand you need
– the knobs and valves for the burners
– door hinge
– burner grills
– burnersAnything else? Basically I could just pull a couple of the oven parts and save all the rest of the stove for you. I’m still in Gainesville but hope to be launching in Green Cove in a couple of months (which is more like four in boat time).

PS
Thanks Adam for putting this out there. Let me know if there’s anything we could do to return the favor. -

ParticipantHi Tor,
Thanks. Will work with Adam to get the stove to FL. Storing it here is not a problem as long as I don’t put it in the house.
Shed or barn is mine but I have already exceeded my space allocation for storing boat stuff in the attic, garage and spare bedroom. Any more and and the dog house would be an upgrade compared to where I would be sent.

ParticipantSkip, sorry I missed your message.
I found it and will work on sending the stove to you as long as it is ok with Tor, since he claimed it first.
I am happy someone can use it, and not go to waste.
I have the shipping box from the new stove to use on this one.

ParticipantAdam,
Skip and I have worked it out to share, since needs
some oven parts, which I do not. He can do this now,
while I’m away, and then store the stove in Florida
until I get back. It’s a win/win.Again, thanks very much for passing that stove along.
(Any ballpark clue what it’s going to cost to ship,
preferably by mule cart or whatever’s least expensive?)Tor

ParticipantHi Adam,
I’m with Tor on the shipping as well; no hurry at all. Send by slow and cheap, at least as long as it doesn’t inconvenience you in the process. If it is too large for UPS or normal methods let me know and I may be able to help as I have a friend in the trucking business.
You should have my address and phone in the PM I sent but let me know if you have any questions.
And thanks again for passing this along.

ParticipantAdam,
It seems like a reasonable shipping rate and I thank
you for getting it.Adam, after the initial excitement of scavenging a few
knobs & spares for my old Hillrange, the reality is
they’re probably not worth even half of $164 to me. My
stove/oven is working, and I don’t even know when I’ll
be back in the US to strip out the parts from yours. So
I guess I ought to pass on your very kind offer. My
apology for any inconvenience my initial exuberance
caused. Ditto to you, Skip. Please feel free to give the stove to Skip and/or
anyone else who can use it.Thanks,

ParticipantQuent,
Yes, but it’s not fair to ask a gift-giver to put in an
additional half-day’s work stripping it down and
dividing, packaging and shipping the parts, especially
at such a busy time of year. Adam very kindly offered
to send or store the unit. He has already put himself
out for us. Perhaps someone can use the entire stove
which, I gather is fully functional.Mea culpa for not thinking it through from the outset.

ParticipantIf no one can use the intact stove, I don’t mind trying to remove parts and trying to ship those if needed. Hate for something to go to the dumpster if someone may have a use for part of it.
Skip I can ship you parts now, and Tor I can ship your parts later when you return to the states.
I apprectiate all of the helpful information and support from this group, it makes projects and upgrades so much easier! So anyway I can help any of you, I will try.

ParticipantAdam,
That’s an extremely generous offer, and much
appreciated. It would be a shame to just throw away a
good stove.Let me back up here for a moment. What condition is
your stove & oven overall, inside and out? Bright &
shiny, rusted & broken, somewhere in between? I ask
because my original thought was that it might be in
better physical shape than mine, which has a crooked
oven door hinge (but is otherwise in good, clean
condition, and fully functional except for one cranky
stovetop burner).Tor

ParticipantMight have run into a solution. I’m buying a spare New Found Metals port from a guy on another forum. Just so happens he has a plan to drive to FL from…………
Mobile AL!
Now my knowledge of the exact geography of LA (that’s Lower Alabama for the uninitiated) isn’t that precise but I’m pretty sure Gulf Shores isn’t far from Mobile. Bet if I offer this fine gentleman a small incentive, assuming the car he’s bringing down is a Ferrari or some other impractical machine without a trunk or back seat, I could impose upon him to haul the stove.
He’s coming down mid-Jan so Adam, if that works for you I’ll check with him to see if I can motivate him.

Tor
ParticipantSkip & Adam,
Welcome back.
The entry of free shipping into the mix changes the it
for me, making the parts (and maybe even the entire
stove/oven box itself if it’s in better shape than
mine) viable. So if Skip has transportation to Florida
for it, I’d be up for Plan A, in which he takes what he
needs for his oven and lets me have the rest. It was
just the $80-odd half/shipping for a what might amount
to a few knobs that put me off earlier. Thanks,

ParticipantHi Adam,
Have lost touch with the guy in AL that was going to pick it up. Been emailing with no reply. Was hoping he had come by but looks like he dropped the ball.
Very sorry for all the trouble. I feel embarrassed about the whole thing and feel like I have strung you along. Well, you know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished.
At this point not sure what to do next. Will see if I can come up with a plan C.
On top of everything else I guess this also means I won’t get the New Found Metals port he had for me.

I am traveling between Gulf Shores to Crystal River on weekend of Feb 28 – March 3rd/4th and back to GS if anyone needs something go to westward.
Skipmac wants it and will get it from me when I am in Crystal River.
Tor, you get your stove parts in FL.
Adam, PM me for contact and we’ll talk about when to put the stove in my truck for deliver to FL.
One caveat: it’s a family trip to FL and if a kid gets really sick we’ll probably cancel. The good news is that we’re all sick now so we should be good-to-go in 2 or 3 weeks! 😉

ParticipantHey Ken,
It’s only 700 n. mi. from Tortola to Georgetown,
Exumas, a 5-6 day sail – but we’ll probably stop
overnight at 2 or 3 islands along the way – T&C,
Mayaguana, etc. So I figure it’ll be around 10 days
before I’m online again. (This is my last email. I’m
weighing anchor now.)Hasta luego,
