ParticipantI’ve been toying with the water system on Lady Leanne for quite a while now to remove an irritating behavior. The pressure drops after a while so that when you turn it back on it starts strong, pressure drops and the flow begins stuttering before it retains its full status. I’ve thoroughly checked for leaks and none were found. All fittings are tight. I’ve even installed a check valve at the tank selector switch to prevent back flow. The pump and accumulator are new.
What’s really interesting, is that the water turns warm before it turns cold. This leads me to believe that there is some kind of back flow through the hot water tank.
This is probably a simple question, but I’ve never had this happen on my Hunter. I though I would throw the question out there before I greased up to crawl into the port lazerette.

ParticipantDo you have an expansion tank on your system? This will hold the
pressure more consistently.Pete

ParticipantI had a slightly similar problem where the system would pump up and sit quiet for a few minutes then the pump would come on for a few seconds then sit quiet for a few minutes and son on and so forth.
After extensive troubleshooting and diagnostics it turned out to be a plugged charcoal filter under the galley sink that filters the pressure side of the system.
check it out

My Shure water pump comes with a pressure sensor that stops the pump when the
water pressure reaches a certain pressure. When the sensor quit working , it
first went through a phase where it activated the pump from time to time. Very
annoying because you think you have a leak somewhere. A few months of that and
it finally quit…made the pump run all the time requiring me to shut it at the
nav. station switch.Maybe that is what you are experiencing.
I then had the same problem after 6 months with a new pump and swore not to buy
another Shure pump. They do have a good warrenty so you can get another new one,
but nevertheless annoying to replace etc.
But this time I had a small leak in my backflush system of my watermaker.
Sometimes leaks are hard to find!Good luck!

ParticipantI just went through this same problem last weekend. My boat had been on the hard for about 4 months. It has always had water pressure problems just like you described. The pressure starts our great then after 2 or 3 minutes it’s down 75%. I pulled the old Shure pump off. It was manufactured in 1995 and it was 3 gpm. I went with another Shure with an “upted” pressure of 4 gpm. Still had the same problem! I checked every inch of pipeline for leaks, took my air tank and blew (low pressure) through every line. Uncapped every tank in case they were not venting but still had the same problem. The only thing left was the hot water heater that’s mounted in the port cockpit locker. I didn’t see any obvious leaks and was about to close the locker lid when I saw a tiny trickle of water running down the bulkhead way back behind the heater. The PO had installed an old GE water filter system inline and the “O” ring in the cap had a miniscule tear. Spraying out water, not major but just enough! Just enough that I guess it was sucking air into the system. I was able to match up the “O” ring at the local NAPA. Re installed it and the system is absolutely great! I’m back to half my ration on rum and facing the next obstacle. Good luck with it.
