Glad you got it, Just noticed I left a few things out, Title Box, dates,
name, not to mention a few dimensions and text. My drafting teacher way
back in 1971 would of failed me for sure!!!!
Have fun,

Pat, I only took pictures of the 2 drawings themselves. I’m done now.
Thanks for your patience. I wish I could have done a more professional
drawing, but I think this will do for any who have use for it.

Pete, how about a picture? It sounds like a very strong addition! I’m
curious as to how it’s ended at the bulwark and hopefully not look like an
after-thought. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I understand, we
need to do what we need to do and sometimes within our means or acceptable
values. A picture tells a story. My platform is already bent and distorted
over these years, but not to the point that I believe it shows badly. A new
support from the stem similar to what I drew should keep it going for many
a more year.

I’m surprised to hear so much about “bending platforms”. I’m assuming everyone is using a snubber that they cleat to the deck, through the chocks (not over the sprit). In this case, there is seldom any long-term strain applied to the platform. You’re biggest worry is just when hauling anchor (and presumably motoring toward the hook, so only the last bit of chain/anchor weight is involved). But maybe I’m misunderstanding some of this.

I found some pictures on my phone. See attached two pictures and two
more in next mail. (This is before I took off the 35lb claw, moved the
65 CQR over to be my secondary anchor, and got the 85lb Mantus in
place). I am one happy hooker now!Pete

Pete,
I like your solution. It avoids the problem of a bob-stay, or similar
support from below, chafing a snubber line as the boat sails at anchor.
One more item for the project file.Regards,

Wow Phil, that “tool” you have looks to me to be a welding jig for the
proper location and angles to weld the pads on the platform. That would be
something that Pearson, or whoever fabricated these platforms for Pearson,
would use as a template to make multiple, over and over again exact fitting
pieces. That is a treasure for the 424’s. How it came with your boat must
have something to do with the shop that fabricated these. And I love the
support that you have under your platform.Ken

Attached are Pictures of Aurora’s anchor platform, as it presently exists,
and a tool that was given to me by the previous owner. The purpose of the
tool, I was told, is to permit a bent platform to be straightened without
distorting the location of the bolt flanges. In fact I used it to
straighten mine (which was bent down somewhat when I purchased the boat)
before I had a local welder fabricate the diagonal brace shown in photo.
I am not near my boat so I cannot confirm that my platform is exactly the
same as Ken shows in his drawings but from memory I am quite sure that it
is. It was original to the boat and the length of the tool at the center of
the flanges is about 29 inches – which correlates well with the 32 inch
dimension in the drawing. I would be pleased to loan it to Paul or anyone
else who might want to have a platform fabricated or straightened. I don’t
know what the shipping cost would be but for estimation purposes, the tool
weighs about 10 pounds.
