Anyone replace the lenses in the Bomar deck hatches? Canal plastics
has nothing uv resistant which translates to a useful life of two-
three years here or 17 minutes in the islands.

Yes, I purchased smoked Margard polycarbonate from a local glass shop and used silpruf bedding compound to replace the plastic in my deck hatches a few years ago. As reported earlier, I had hinge failures in two hatches and ended up replacing the whole thing. I bought a pair of Bowmar deck hatches from the same place I purchased the portlights for about the same price ($200 ea.). They were extruded aluminum frame hatches rather than the cast aluminum. They were the same size, but the hole pattern was different.

I pulled mine several years ago had the frames powder coated and replaced the glass. I believe that it was Lexan. I contacted Bomar and they suggested the type of glass and I got it at a local glass shop. I can’t remember what the name of the glazing compound that they told me I had to use. I believe that it was GE Ultraglaze it was the stickiest stuff that I have ever seen I recomend taping off the glass inside and out. It is difficult to tool and sticks to everything that it comes near. The powder coat was not worth it to me. I have had to touch up with paint but all in all they are better than when I started. No leaks and I can see through them.
